Let’s Celebrate World Book Day in Hospital! It’s World Book Day on the first Thursday in March, a special day designated by UNESCO to celebrate books and reading. On 6 March thousands of children mark the day by taking part in reading activities and events, like bringing their favourite book to school, or dressing up as their favourite book character, or welcoming an author or poet into the classroom. With schools, libraries and shops buzzing with books, some children, unfortunately, will miss out on the activities as they are ill in hospital. But there were smiles in Cilgerran Ward, Glangwili Hospital on Thursday morning as Jonathan Lewis, Managing Director of Gomer Press, Llandysul, presented a large pack of books to the children on the ward. He said “As the main publisher of children’s books in Wales, it’s a pleasure to be able to give children a book on World Book Day this year. A book can keep them amused for hours, and will take them on an imaginary journey away from the confinement of the hospital bed. That’s a medicine worth having!” Janet Milward, Senior Sister, and Mari James, Hospital Play Specialist, were delighted with the books, so that children could celebrate World Book Day in hospital too.
