Details
The Neath & Brecon Railway only came to link the towns in its title by accident; it was a railway torn by financial conflict, management and disasters, and a railway dominated by a larger concern, the Midland company. But it is also a railway which, unlike most coal-based lines in south Wales, survives in part even to this day.
It was a railway run by colourful personalities, whose relationships cast a fascinating light on Victorion business methods - together with the rather unexpected crowning personality of the story, the internationally renowned opera singer Dame Adelina Patti, who lived at Craig-y-nos for over forty years and contributed much to the Neath & Brecon Railway.
