PAINTING THE MOUNTAINS: KYFFIN WILLIAMS
by
Carolyn Davies
and
Lynne Bebb
Language: : English
| |
Kyffin Williams is an artist of his cynefin, the particular people, animals and landscape of his beloved Gwynedd. The colours of the natural world - shades of white, green, grey and brown - make up Kyffin's palette, and paint spread thickly with a palette knife creates his characteristic crags and ridges, lakes and skies.
Very important to Kyffin is his library of memories, the stock of images stored when walking and painting in the landscape. Over the years he came to realise that he didn't need to carry his canvas and easel into the fields and mountains, but could work just as well in his studio. He had come to know 'the colour of Gwynedd'.
Using Kyffin's own words and a selection of his paintings and drawings, this book shows the distinctively Welsh character of his work - a painter who cannot be seperated from his cynefin..
