R. Gerallt Jones

R. Gerallt Jones (1934 - 1999) was a poet, novelist and literary critic from the Llyˆn Peninsula. The son of a North Wales clergyman, he received a public school education in England, read English at Bangor, before becoming a schoolteacher, a university lecturer, and then Warden of Coleg Llanymddyfri. He published poetry and criticism in both English and Welsh during his lifetime, and his artistic horizons were articulated by a deep attention to the literary traditions of both languages. He published five novels in Welsh, one of which Triptych, won the Prose Medal at the National Eisteddfod in 1977. He also translated Triptych into English and it was published in the parallel text series, Trosiadau/Translations by Gomer in 2001. Five years after his death, his book, A Place in the Mind was published, describing his boyhood in Llyˆn.
