ABOUT GOMER
Gomer Press is a printing and publishing company based in Llandysul, west Wales. The company was first established in 1892 and is owned by the same family to this day. Jonathan Lewis, the great grandson of the company's founder, is the current managing director. Gomer Press today is both a thriving printing company and the largest publishing house in Wales.
Every year, we publish over 120 titles, specializing in books which have a distinctive Welsh identity. We have four distinct lists:
English books for adults
For several decades Gomer has been publishing a wide range of English-language books with a Welsh dimension. Particularly popular in other Celtic countries these books also have a broader international appeal. The English list for adults features history, travel writing, biography, literature, cookery and visual arts. Our established authors and artists include Gillian Clarke, Jim Perrin, Kyffin Williams and Idris Davies.
English books for children (Pont Books imprint)
Pont Books is an imprint designed to produce English books with a Welsh connection for children. Pont's list contains fiction for children aged from 5 to 15, as well as poetry, drama and resources for schools. It is a useful resource for the Curriculum Cymreig, taught in all schools in Wales. Pont has won many awards and praise by reviewers in the Times Educational Supplement, Books for Keeps and The Young Book Trust. For children who cannot read Welsh, it is an invaluable link to the culture of Wales in its entirety.
Welsh books for children
Gomer specializes in attractive and exciting books for children of all ages in the Welsh language, from Smot's board books to hard-hitting books for teenagers. There are a number of different series - including Chwedlau o Gymru (Legends from Wales series), Cyfres Llyffantod (Hoppers series), and Cyfres Clwb Cysgu C?l (Sleepover Club series).
Welsh books for adults
Gomer Press considers it a privilege to publish the work of a number of the Welsh-language's eminent literary figures, past and present. Amongst the adult list are Islwyn Ffowc Elis, T.Rowland Hughes, Gwenallt, Hywel Teifi Edwards, Angharad Price and Owen Martell. We also have two popular bilingual series - Trosiadau/Translations and Cip ar Gymru/Wonder Wales.
